BULADEAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
1938
2004
Buladean Elementary School is located in rural north Mitchell County with a spectacular view of the Roan Mountain. The school lies on a spacious campus with room for a baseball field and large playground. One hundred twenty-two students attend the school with more than 98% transported by three buses. Students from kindergarten through eighth grade attend the school.
The brick school building was built in 1951. In 1958 the wooden cafeteria was replaced by a brick cafeteria on the northern end of the school. The wooden gymnasium was torn down in the mid-sixties and the auditorium was covered into a gymatorium.
The school is served by one principal and nine full-time teachers. There are also three teacher's assistants, one secretary, one custodian, and three cafeteria workers. A librarian, Spanish teacher, vocational teacher, and guidance counselor serve the school on a part-time basis.
In 2001, a new gym, with a concessions stand, restroom, and PE offices was opened on the north end of the building. In 2002, using grant funds, the old gymatorium was remodeled to include a state-of-the-art media center, a new classroom, a conference room and space for the school-based health clinic.
